Rev. Weatherly Burkhead Verhelst was appointed to Utica United Methodist Church on August 1, 2009. She is glad to be serving with Rev. Bill Donahue and other ministry leaders as part of the Utica UMC team ministry. Weatherly's hope for ministry is to see people of all generations and experiences come to a deeper understanding of Jesus Christ's love for them, and to respond to God's grace in a life of discipleship.

Weatherly began ministry as the associate pastor of Court Street United Methodist Church (Flint) in 1994. She has since served Middlebury UMC in Ovid, MI, and State Street UMC in Saginaw.

Weatherly was born in Duluth, Minnesota and grew up mainly in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is a graduate of Albion College (lo Triumphe!) and received her Master of Divinity degree from Boston University School of Theology.

Weatherly is married to Craig, an accountant with the heart of a bass guitar player. She and Craig are the parents of two sons, Isaac and Caelan. She is a bookworm, a happy sideline cheerleader for her sons' sports and theatrical works and enjoys being out on the water or in the woods as often as possible.

Come worship with us on Labor Day Sunday, September 3.
Our focus will be on God's Word, The Bible. Pastor Weatherly Verhelst will be bringing the message "The Labor of Love" based on Mark 15:33-39. The Sacrament of Communion will be observed.

Rally Day
Sunday, September 12, Between services you are encouraged to look over the offering of adult Sunday School classes for the fall. From 1-3 in the afternoon we are having a PIG ROAST and picnic outdoors. Tickets are available now for the pig roast...$5.00 per person or $20.00 for a family of 4 or more. Along with your tickets you'll need a dish to pass (assigned when you buy your tickets) and lawn chairs or blankets.

Commit to Be Fit begins soon! Our favorite chair aerobics class will meet on Mondays and Thursdays beginning September 13 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. under the auspices of our Parish Nurse.

Men have "A Minute to Win It" following a meal at the church on Wednesday, September 15, at 5:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Following the competition, you can learn about the men's group studies this fall.

There's been a date change! "It's Cool in the Furnace" will be presented Sunday, October 17, at both worship services.
